Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday from her second-time partner and Hollywood star Ben Affleck after two years of marriage.
Lopez filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court and listed April 26, 2024, as the date of separation. She has filed for it without a lawyer and would be self-represented during the proceedings.
Although they married in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022, Aug. 20 marked the second anniversary of the traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia.
“She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken,” a source tells PEOPLE of Lopez. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
The singer did not also reveal if there is any prenuptial agreement between the two parties.
Lopez and Affleck’s relationship has always been in the news. After they broke up in 2004, they remained friendly for almost two decades before rekindling their love in 2021.
Lopez and Affleck later went Instagram official in July of that year and returned to the red carpet together at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.
A rep for Lopez confirmed that she and Affleck were engaged in April 2022, and the pair held a surprise wedding in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022. They held a bigger ceremony in Affleck’s 87-acre home in Georgia later on.
The couple had reportedly been having some marital issues since May and they were allegedly not living together at that time.
