Singer Ingrid Andress’s rendition faces backlash on social media as she performed the national anthem before the MLB Home Run Derby on Monday. The criticism caused the Grammy-nominated artist to admit in a release on Tuesday that she was drunk during the performance and is entering a rehab facility to get help.
Ingrid Andress, a 32-year-old country singer known for hits like “Wishful Drinking” and “More Hearts Than Mine,” was compared to Fergie after what many people tagged as a poorly executed anthem.
Fergie’s rendition in 2018 before the NBA All-Star Game went all over for its unique style, leaving even players on the sidelines struggling to maintain their composure as she gave a beautifully jazz-influenced version of the iconic song.
Videos from the Home Run Derby show show Phillies star Alec Bohm smirking while Ingrid Andress sang, which many criticized as out of tune.

While viewers at home didn’t stop mocking and black-lashing, Andress has revealed that there were deeper reasons behind her rendition.
The country star announced the release of her single “Colorado 9,” set for July 24 before the Derby. Her Instagram account features a few posts, all centered around her music, and comments have been disabled.
Andress and Fergie aren’t the only singers who have had to face backlash for their national anthem performances. In 1990, Roseanne Barr’s rendition at a San Diego Padres game was widely condemned, but the actress defended her performance, stating, “Geez, gimme a break. I was just trying to sing a song,” according to CBS Los Angeles. She later apologized for the public’s reaction.
