Gypsy Rose Blanchard, whose life story has captivated the public due to its tragic and unusual circumstances, has announced she is expecting her first child. This news comes less than a year after her release from prison, where she served time for her role in her mother’s death.
Gypsy Rose, now 32, revealed the news in a YouTube video, stating, “Ken and I are so excited to start our family together.” The father is her boyfriend, Ken Urker, whom she reconnected with after her release.
The announcement has stirred mixed reactions, given the former inmate’s complex past. She spent years as a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, forced by her mother to feign various illnesses. This abuse culminated in a shocking crime that led to her incarceration.
Addressing potential concerns about her readiness for motherhood, Gypsy Rose said,
“I know that there are going to be people who feel like I’m not ready to be a mother, and I don’t know if anyone’s really ready to become a mother….It’s an amazing feeling when your whole world shifts. And suddenly it’s not about you; it’s not about anything other than the tiny little life that’s inside you that you are now in charge of protecting.”
Gypsy Rose also appears to be committed in breaking the cycle of abuse she experienced in the hands of her own mother as she said:
“All the things that I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby. Knowing that, I am a mother now, and I am happy, and I just want to be a good mother for my child. I want to be everything my mother wasn’t.”
Since her release in December 2023, the 32-year-old has been adjusting to life outside prison walls. She has been the subject of multiple documentary series, detailing both her time in prison and her post-release experiences. One of her latest docuseries, Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up, will be airing its final season later this month.
