After President Joe Biden decided not to run for reelection, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has become a topic of discussion for the Democratic vice presidential spot. Vice President Kamala Harris is now the leading candidate for the party’s presidential nomination, and people are wondering who might be her running mate.

Governor Walz, who leads an important committee for the Democratic National Convention, has been talking about how the party will choose its candidate. He told WCCO’s Esme Murphy that anyone can try to become the nominee. “Anybody can run,” Walz said. He explained that if a person can get 300 delegates to support them, their name can be put forward for nomination.

When asked if he might become the vice presidential candidate, Walz was careful with his words. He said he didn’t know if he was being considered. Walz mentioned that he had talked to Vice President Harris after Biden’s announcement and she had told him “she wants to earn the endorsement.”

Tim Walz has been appearing on national TV news shows lately, speaking for the Democratic campaign. This has made more people pay attention to him as a possible vice presidential pick. Minnesota, where Walz is governor, is close to several important swing states that Democrats need to win the White House.

The governor has an interesting background that might make him a good choice. He served in the military, worked as a teacher, and was in Congress before becoming governor. Under his leadership, Minnesota has passed several progressive laws, including protecting abortion rights.

Even though people are talking about him as a possible vice president, Walz isn’t saying much about it. At a press conference, he said he had talked to Harris but wouldn’t give details.

“I’m not going to talk about the specifics that were in on that, and at this point in time we’re just going to leave it at that,” he said.

Governor Tim Walz did say he’s excited about Harris running for president and thinks that the campaign has a lot of energy now.

In the coming weeks, we’ll see how the party decides who will run against the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump, in November. For now, Governor Tim Walz is focusing on his job in Minnesota while also helping the Democratic campaign when he can.
