Shannen Doherty, the actress best known for her roles in popular television series “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” has died at the age of 53. Doherty had been fighting breast cancer since her initial diagnosis in 2015.
The actress’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, confirmed her passing in a statement, saying,
“On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie.”
Shannen Doherty first rose to fame in 1990 as Brenda Walsh on the hit series “Beverly Hills, 90210.” The show catapulted her to stardom and tackled groundbreaking topics for its time. Following her departure from “90210,” Doherty found success in the supernatural drama “Charmed,” playing Prue Halliwell for three seasons.
Throughout her career, Doherty appeared in various television shows and films, including “Heathers,” “Little House on the Prairie,” and more recently, “Riverdale.” She also ventured into reality television and hosted her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty,” where she openly discussed her cancer journey.
It was later in June of last year that the actress revealed that the cancer had spread to her brain, then later, to her bones. However, while fighting to regain her health, she continued to work on her many projects and remained transparent about her experiences with cancer.
Doherty’s passing marks the end of a career that spanned over four decades in the entertainment industry. She is remembered not only for her iconic roles but also for her resilience in the face of her illness.
