Prepare for another mind-bending cinematic experience from the master of suspense, M. Night Shyamalan.
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the director’s latest thriller, “Trap,” starring Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, and Shyamalan’s daughter Saleka in a terrifying tale set against the backdrop of a pop concert.
The trailer, previously unveiled at CinemaCon earlier this month, offers a tantalizing glimpse into the film’s dark and sinister premise. Hartnett plays a father attending a concert with his teenage daughter Jody, portrayed by Donoghue. However, their night out takes a nightmarish turn when “they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.”
The trailer teases Josh Hartnett’s character as a serial killer, referred to as “The Butcher” by authorities, who is holding a victim hostage and must find a way to escape the concert venue undetected. Meanwhile, Shyamalan’s daughter Saleka makes her acting debut as the pop star Lady Raven, whose performance serves as the backdrop for the chilling events that unfold.
“Trap” marks Shyamalan’s first release since his move from Universal to Warner Bros., a decision he announced in August 2023, which was first reported by Deadline.
“Where I write and direct is my home,” the director said at the time. “Disney and Universal, where I’ve made most of my films, will always be home and family to me. Warner Bros. has a storied history of cinema. Through its recent experiences, the company has rediscovered its love and appreciation for filmmakers, and the impact of the theatrical experience.”
The film’s premise sets the stage for a tense and suspenseful cat-and-mouse game, with Josh Hartnett’s character navigating a claustrophobic environment filled with unsuspecting concertgoers.
“Trap” hits theaters on August 9. You can the watch the film’s trailer below.
