Golden State’s guard Stephen Curry recognized the narrowing window of opportunity for his Olympic debut, prompting him and his wife Ayesha to meticulously plan for the Paris Games, factoring in their expanding family.
The couple, expecting their fourth child in June, strategically timed the pregnancy to ensure availability during the Olympic months of July and August.
While the assumption might be that Curry’s allegiance to coach Steve Kerr played a pivotal role in his decision, the reality differed. Though he engaged in discussions with fellow stars Kevin Durant and LeBron James, Kerr refrained from pressuring Curry to join the Olympic roster.
Curry’s illustrious career boasts an array of accolades, leaving few boxes unchecked. However, an Olympic gold medal remains a coveted milestone for the NBA legend.
Despite the Golden State Warriors’ absence from the NBA playoffs, Curry’s focus now shifts to the Olympics. With the training camp in Las Vegas slated for July, Curry anticipates representing the U.S. on the global stage once again.
Curry’s journey with Team USA spans 17 years, characterized by numerous victories, including gold at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
For Curry, securing Olympic gold would be the crowning achievement in an already illustrious career, solidifying his legacy as one of basketball’s greatest.
“I definitely wanted this experience,” Curry said of playing in an Olympics. “I think the timing is just right. I’m later in my career. This is probably the last opportunity I have to play. And that made it a much easier decision to say, ‘This makes sense.’ And then I was talking to some other guys who were interested in playing, so you knew this could be a great team.”
