During NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis on Feb. 17, Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu are set to face off in a 3-point challenge, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
The contest, known as “Stephen vs. Sabrina,” will be broadcast on TNT and will feature the NBA’s all-time leader in 3-pointers, Curry, against the New York Liberty standout, Ionescu, who boasted a 44.8 percent success rate from long distance last season.
Ionescu, 26, secured victory in the WNBA’s 3-point contest in 2023, setting a record with 37 points. Meanwhile, the 35-year-old Curry, a two-time winner of the NBA’s 3-point contest in 2015 and 2021, maintains a career 42.6 percent accuracy from beyond the arc.
Curry will take shots from the NBA 3-point line using standard league basketballs, while Ionescu will be positioned at the WNBA 3-point line, shooting with WNBA basketballs.
Despite Curry’s nine-time NBA All-Star status, he did not secure a starting lineup spot for this year’s game on Feb. 18, though he is expected to be named as a reserve.
In the current season, Curry holds average of 27.3 points per game and leads the league in both 3-point attempts (464) and successful shots (187), with a shooting accuracy of 40.3 percent.
During the 2023 season, Ionescu maintained an average of 17.0 points per game, converting 128 of her 286 attempts from 3-point range.
