Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons voiced his frustration with the Philadelphia Eagles’ decision to select Quinyon Mitchell in the 2024 NFL Draft. Mitchell, a cornerback, fills a critical position gap for Philadelphia, instantly strengthening a team that trailed Dallas in the NFC East standings.
For Parsons, who recognizes the importance of incremental improvements in the NFL, the Eagles’ choice carries significant weight. Yet, while Parsons’ discontent is understandable, it might be somewhat misplaced. The Cowboys’ frustration with the Eagles’ pick could have been mitigated had Dallas made substantial moves in free agency or the draft to enhance their own roster.
As the Eagles, led by Howie Roseman, took proactive steps to fortify their team, the Cowboys were left watching from the sidelines. Philadelphia’s acquisitions included Saquon Barkley to bolster their running game, securing Kenny Pickett as a dependable backup quarterback, and retaining C.J. Gardner-Johnson. With Mitchell’s addition, the Eagles’ defense appears even more formidable.
In contrast, the Cowboys’ offseason was marked by relative inactivity in free agency and significant losses, including key players like Tony Pollard, Tyron Smith, and Tyler Biadasz.
The failure to adequately address these departures leaves the Cowboys’ offense depleted and places additional pressure on defensive stalwarts like Parsons.
