A lawsuit filed by Emilio Garcia, a former cameraman for Megan Thee Stallion, alleges that he was subjected to harassment and a hostile work environment after an incident where he claims to have been confined in a moving vehicle with the hip-hop artist in a foreign country while she engaged in sexual activity with another woman.
According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, Garcia stated that he was instructed not to discuss the incident and was subsequently mistreated by Megan, who allegedly made derogatory remarks and treated him differently.
The suit contends that the harassment created a hostile work environment, rendering Garcia’s working conditions intolerable.
Representatives for Roc Nation, Megan’s management, did not provide comment on the matter.
Garcia worked as Megan Thee Stallion’s personal cameraman from 2018 until June 2023, quitting his previous job to work for her full time, the lawsuit stated.
During a trip to Ibiza, Spain, in June 2022, Garcia claims he was present in a vehicle with Megan and three other women when Megan and one of the women began engaging in sexual activity next to him.
Following the incident, Megan allegedly warned Garcia not to discuss what he witnessed.
During the same trip, Garcia alleges that Megan verbally abused him, making derogatory comments about his weight and eating habits.
Upon their return from Ibiza, Garcia claims his compensation structure was changed, and he faced decreased bookings for assignments from Megan.
Despite enduring a series of disparaging comments and a reduction in work opportunities, Garcia remained on the job until June 2023, when Roc Nation notified him that his services were no longer required.
The lawsuit alleges that Garcia suffered emotional distress, physical injuries, and loss of earnings as a result of Megan’s alleged behavior and the toxic work environment.
Garcia’s lawsuit also accuses Megan of employment and wage violations, including misclassification as an independent contractor, denial of overtime pay and breaks, and lack of insurance coverage.
Garcia is seeking unpaid wages, interest, statutory penalties, wage penalties, punitive damages, and reimbursement of costs incurred, including attorney fees.
