From a tough hitman to a speedy hedgehog companion!
Variety confirms that Keanu Reeves, the star of “John Wick,” will lend his voice to Shadow in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.” This adds him to a cast featuring Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as the villainous Dr. Robotnik. Paramount Pictures, the film’s studio, declined to comment, according to a spokesperson.
In the video games, Shadow, a black-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog, serves as something of an antihero, often crossing paths with Sonic.
Reeves boasts an impressive resume including roles in “Speed,” “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” and the “Matrix” franchise. He’s also set to star in the “John Wick” spinoff, “Ballerina,” alongside Ana de Armas. His upcoming projects also include “Good Fortune,” where he’ll share the screen with Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh.
“Sonic 3” will be directed by Jeff Fowler, who helmed the first two movies. The film is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 20, 2024, with Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno producing.
Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise has been a major success, with both films collectively grossing $725.2 million worldwide. Additionally, a spin-off series titled “Knuckles” is in the works for Paramount+.
The news of Reeves joining the cast of “Sonic 3” was first reported on “The John Campea Show.”
