Dr. Jane Goodall, the world-renowned primatologist and environmental activist who just marked her 90th birthday yesterday, is showing no signs of slowing down her relentless efforts to protect the planet.
For Goodall, who spends around 300 days a year traveling for work, this milestone is simply another opportunity to amplify her calls for urgent climate action.
Recently returning from Brazil, where she witnessed the devastating impact of illegal gold mining and mercury contamination on indigenous communities and ecosystems, Goodall has forged a partnership with Brilliant Earth, a sustainable and ethically sourced jewelry brand.
Their collaboration, featuring limited-edition pieces made from recycled gold, will fund conservation projects through the Brilliant Earth Foundation and the Jane Goodall Institute.
The English activist pulls no punches when addressing the climate crisis and the sense of doom pervading younger generations.
“We have really destroyed the planet, and we’re getting to a point of no return,” she acknowledges, “but we still have a window of time.”
With the 2024 U.S. presidential election on the horizon, Goodall implores those feeling apathetic to exercise their right to vote, emphasizing the importance of choosing candidates committed to safeguarding the future.
For individuals who feel powerless to make a difference, she offers a simple piece of advice:
“Find what you care about, and you’ll realize you can make a difference.”
