Justice has been served against a violent offender who carried out multiple stabbing attacks against a young woman. James Legg, 31, was sentenced to 28 years in prison on Friday at Wood Green Crown Court after previously being convicted of attempted murder.

According to the UK Met. Police, the lengthy prison term comes after Legg subjected his victim, a woman in her 20s who was known to him, to a prolonged and savage knife assault in November 2021 at her home in the Gilden Crescent area of North London. Despite asking him to leave due to his erratic behavior from drug and alcohol use, he returned to the woman’s room armed with a knife and began a relentless stabbing spree.

By the time the brutal attack ended, the victim had sustained 10 stab wounds across her body. She only avoided further injury by managing to wrestle the knife away temporarily before barricading herself in a bathroom as James Legg attempted to break through the door.

Thanks to the swift response of police following a call from the victim’s flatmate, James Legg was quickly apprehended nearby but remained stonily defiant throughout the investigation, providing no explanation for his near-deadly violence.

In a statement, the lead investigator PC Andrew Fisher talked about the force’s commitment to supporting the survivor and securing justice.

“This was a horrific incident which left the woman with significant stab injuries…we made sure that she was at the heart of our investigation,” he stated. “Tackling violence against women and girls is a key priority for the Met and I hope convictions such as these, while highlighting the terrible violence some women suffer, demonstrates how determined we are as a police force to hold those responsible to account.”
