In a recent episode of “Saturday Night Live,” Scarlett Johansson took the stage, not to host or perform a musical number, but to portray Senator Katie Britt in a skit that has since gone viral.

The sketch, which aired on Saturday, March 9, satirized the Republican Senator’s response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, with Johansson delivering a performance that was both humorous and pointed.

The actress, dressed as Senator Britt and placed in a semblance of the infamous kitchen setting, opened with a monologue titled “This Country is Hell,” immediately setting the tone for a segment that would blend political satire with dark comedy. She said,

“Good evening America. My name is Katie Britt, and I have the honor of serving the people of Alabama. But tonight, I’ll be auditioning for the part of scary mom….You see, I’m not just a senator. I’m a wife, a mother, and the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot.”

Her portrayal of Britt as a “scary mom” and “the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot” was gold and drew laughter from the audience and online viewers.

The skit continued to poke fun at the senator’s real-life speech, which had been widely criticized for its dramatic delivery and content.

“I’m worried about the future of our children and this is why I’ve invited you into this strange, empty kitchen. Because Republicans wanted me to appeal to women voters and women love kitchen.”

At some point during the skit, she claimed she was “not just a senator,” but also a mother who could pivot into a “shockingly violent story about sex trafficking” with ease.

“First and foremost, I’m a mom. And like any mom, I’m going to do a pivot out of nowhere into a shockingly violent story about sex trafficking. Rest assured, every detail about it is real, except the year, where it took place, and who was president when it happened,”

The absurdity was heightened when she attempted to sell a “gorgeous bejeweled cross necklace” mid-speech, blurring the lines between political address and home shopping network.

SNL’s choice to have Scarlett Johansson stir a teacup, evoking the film “Get Out,” while Kenan Thompson shed a single tear, added a layer of cinematic reference to the already rich satire.

The sketch concluded with a nod to the senator’s actual words, leaving viewers amused with her performance.
