On March 24, 2024, around 2:51 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a severe motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist on Mattawoman Beantown Road near Pinefield Road.
Upon arrival, responders found the bicyclist on the road with significant injuries. Immediate medical evacuation was requested. The driver of the car involved in the accident remained present at the scene.
A landing zone was set up at the Park and Ride on Mattawoman Beantown Road, from where Maryland State Police, Trooper 2, airlifted the injured bicyclist to MedStar Trauma Center for urgent medical attention.
As a result of the accident, Mattawoman Beantown Road was closed northbound between Nike Drive and Indian Lane for an extended duration.
The incident remains under investigation by the authorities.
