Anthropic, an AI startup that aims to develop artificial intelligence in a safe and responsible way, has recently launched its new AI model family, Claude 3.
The family consists of three models: Claude 3 Opus, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Haiku. Each model offers different levels of intelligence, speed, and cost, depending on the user’s needs and preferences.
Claude 3 is a large language model (LLM), which means it can process natural language and generate text, as well as images, code, and other modalities. It is powered by Anthropic’s proprietary technology, which enables it to learn from a large and diverse corpus of data, as well as from user feedback and interactions.
According to Anthropic, Claude 3 outperforms its competitors, such as OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s Gemini Ultra, on various benchmarks of AI capability. For example, Claude 3 Opus, the most intelligent model in the family, scored 50.4% on the Graduate-level Professional Question Answering (GPQA) test, which measures the ability to answer complex questions that require expert knowledge and reasoning. In comparison, GPT-4 scored 35.7% on the same test.
Claude 3 also boasts of being faster and more cost-effective than its peers. Claude 3 Haiku, the fastest model in the family, can read and process a 10,000-word research paper with charts and graphs in less than three seconds. Claude 3 Sonnet, the middle model in the family, is twice as fast as the previous generation of Claude models, with higher levels of intelligence.
Claude 3 is designed to cater to various use cases and applications, such as content creation, knowledge retrieval, code generation, customer service, and more. It can also handle multiple languages, such as Spanish, Japanese, and French, as well as multimodal inputs and outputs, such as images, diagrams, and charts.
Anthropic claims that Claude 3 is not only a powerful and versatile AI model, but also a safe and responsible one. The company says that it follows the principles of effective altruism, which means it strives to maximize the positive impact of AI on society and minimize the potential harm.
Claude 3 is now available to use on claude.ai, Anthropic’s online platform that allows users to interact with the AI model and explore its capabilities. Claude 3 Haiku is not yet released, but Anthropic says it will be available soon.
