Christiano Ronaldo, who added another goal to his tally for Al-Nassr cemented his place as the highest goalscorer in 2023, ahead of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe.
Ronaldo scored for Al-Nassr on Saturday to increase his tally to 54, with no game left to play for him and any of his competitors.
Harry Kane who had 52 goals in 2023 for Bayern Munich and England would be looking to surpass his 2023 record. Julian Mbappe has also scored 52 goals for PSG and France.
Erling Haaland who has scored 50 goals for Manchester City and Norway this year could not play against Sheffield United on Saturday because of an injury. Maybe he could equal Ronaldo’s tally. Who knows?
Speaking after the match, the Portuguese icon then set himself the target of being the highest again.
In an interview with Saudi outlet SSC Sports, Ronaldo said: “I’m very happy, it was a good year for me as an individual and as a collective. I scored so many goals, I helped the team a lot at Al-Nassr and for the national team. I feel good, I feel happy and next year I will try to do it again.”
Ronaldo has scored goals wherever he has played and has continued in the same fashion since joining Al-Nassr last December.
Ronaldo and Al-Nassr return to action against their domestic rivals, Al-Feiha, in the Asian Champions League on February 12, as the continent breaks for the 2023 Asian Cup.
