Republican Congressman George Santos could be kicked out of the House should the members vote for expulsion this week, as early as Tuesday.
Last week, Santos made comments suggesting that he could be expelled from the house following reports by the House Ethics Committee that found substantial evidence of lawbreaking by the New York Republican.
“I know I’m going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor,” he said Friday night during a conversation on X Spaces. “I’ve done the math over and over, and it doesn’t look really good.”
Santos has already survived two expulsion votes, but his allies are starting to change allegiance citing the findings of the committee’s months-long investigation into a wide range of alleged misconduct by Santos.
The expulsion vote is expected to happen on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Congressman Andrew Garbarino of New York is a member of the House Ethics Committee.
“I think a lot people who were hesitant and didn’t vote for it last time and either voted present or no have signaled that they will switch their vote now that ethics has finished its investigation,” Garbarino said.
The report found Santos used campaign funds for personal purposes, even to view adult content websites.
“Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit,” investigators wrote.
The House needs a two-thirds majority to expel a member from Congress.
