Following Laura Trott’s elevation to chief secretary to the Treasury by prime minister Rishi Sunak, an announcement regarding the appointment of a new pensions minister is anticipated.
The action is a part of a government reorganization that follows Suella Braverman, the home secretary, being fired this morning (November 13, 11). Since then, former prime minister David Cameron has been named as the home secretary’s replacement, with James Cleverly taking over as the foreign secretary.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirmed Laura Trott’s appointment as a parliamentary under-secretary on October 27, 2022, and on November 7, 2022, the DWP confirmed her position as minister of pensions. Trott is the Member of Parliament for Sevenoaks.
Trott has been in charge of a number of pension-related consultations and laws during her tenure at the DWP. These include the Pensions (Extension of Automatic Enrolment) (No. 2) Bill, which is a bill that extends auto-enrollment and received royal assent in September, as well as a number of consultation responses and launches related to the Mansion House Reforms in July.
Trott replaced Alex Burghart as the minister of pensions and growth after the prime minister Rishi Sunak reshuffled last October. Burghart had been transferred from the ministry to the Cabinet Office.
