Sunday’s thrilling 39-37 victory over the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers was secured by C.J. Stroud, who completed the game with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tank Dell with six seconds remaining. Stroud’s passing total was a rookie-record 470 yards and five touchdowns.
After Baker Mayfield gave Tampa Bay the lead with his second touchdown pass of the day, a 14-yard pass to Cade Otton, Stroud oversaw a 75-yard drive in 40 seconds. To set up their go-ahead touchdown, Stroud found Dell for a 26-yard completion.
Stroud completed 30 of 42 passes, including a 75-yard touchdown pass and six completions for 153 yards with Noah Brown.
Dell finished with six grabs for 114 yards and two touchdowns, while Dalton Schultz added 10 receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown.
With 8:45 left, backup running back Dare Ogunbowale made a game-tying 29-yard field goal to give the Texans (4-4) a 33-30 lead. Ka’imi Fairbairn, who was sidelined at halftime due to a quad injury, was replaced by Ogunbowale.
For the Buccaneers (3-5), who have dropped their last four games, Mayfield completed 21 of 30 passes for 265 yards.
