When emergency personnel were called to Matthew Perry‘s residence on Saturday, they discovered him “unconscious in a stand-alone jacuzzi.”
“A bystander had brought the man’s head above the water and gotten him to the edge, then Firefighters removed him from the water upon their arrival,” a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department told CNN in a statement to CNN Monday when asked about the incident at Perry’s address. “A rapid medical assessment, sadly, revealed the man was deceased prior to first responder arrival.”
Matthew Perry was 54 till his death.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner and the Los Angeles Police Department are looking into the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death, according to the LAFD.
The cause of Perry’s death has been ascertained through an autopsy, but toxicology report results are still pending, according to the medical examiner’s office, which told CNN on Sunday. Completing these reports can take several weeks.
There are no suspicions of foul play, a law enforcement source told CNN.
In the midst of the police response, Perry’s parents, John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Morrison, as well as his stepfather, “Dateline” correspondent Keith Morrison, were observed making their way to the actor’s residence on Saturday night.
People magazine received a message from Perry’s family expressing their “heartbreak at the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother.”
“Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend,” the statement said. “You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
