Pennsylvania prison escapee and convinced killer Danelo Cavalcante has been arrested by the police after evading them for about two weeks.
He survived by breaking into homes for food and hiding out in the woods.
SWAT officers in armored trucks along with hundreds of other police officers on Tuesday searched the neighborhood after a helicopter caught a glimpse of the dangerous escapee in South Coventry Township.
He was arrested without a tussle on Wednesday morning when K9s sniffed him out lying underneath leaves and wood on top of a stolen rifle, Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said.
According to Bivens, he tried to crawl through thick underbrush, taking his rifle with him as he went,” but a K9 subdued him.
I don’t know that he was particularly skilled,” Bivens said at a press conference. “He was desperate.”
After he was caught, he was escorted back to the police van by SWAT teams. Footage showed the killer wearing a gray Philadelphia Eagles sweatshirt, which was cut off by officers, presumably to search for hidden weapons.
The investigators took pictures of his tattoos once his shirt was off, to confirm his identity, before he was taken to a police station in Avondale for questioning.
Danelo escaped from the prison by moving to a secluded area of the yard, scaling a wall, and climbing over razor wire before jumping from a roof to evade the prison guards.
