Martin Scorsese’s film “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro, has a brand-new teaser that released online on Wednesday.
DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart in the movie, De Niro’s character’s “war hero” nephew who Burkhart refers to as “the nicest man in the world.” He’s anything but that, though.
Based on David Grann’s best-selling book of the same name, “Killers of the Flower Moon” takes place in 1920s Oklahoma and tells the true story of the Osage Nation’s oil-rich members who were murdered repeatedly.
By arranging for his nephew to marry into the tribe and commit outright murder, De Niro’s character warms his nephew up to the scheme to take the oil discovered on Osage land.
Years passed as the ensuing murderous rampage, colloquially known as the Reign of Terror, was covered up by the populace as “bad luck,” as De Niro’s character icily puts it. Jesse Plemons’ character is a federal investigator who believes there is more to it.
Burkhart, meantime, is split between his Native American bride Mollie, played by Gladstone, who begs him to revenge her family, and his uncle’s cunning plans.
“You gotta pick a side,” his uncle advises him.
“Killers of the Flower Moon,” which had its world debut at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, will be shown in theaters on October 20.
