Jordan Travis: Florida State Capitalized On Clemson’s ‘Disrespectful’ Coverage

Jordan Travis, the quarterback for Florida State, aggravated a left shoulder injury during Saturday’s game against Clemson, but he was determined to throw the game-winning touchdown pass nevertheless. Not after how he feels the Tigers’ defense handled the Seminoles throughout the entire game.

The Seminoles won 31-24 in overtime thanks to a 24-yard touchdown pass from Travis to Keon Coleman, marking their first triumph against Clemson since 2013. After yet another close call, it enabled Florida State to maintain its perfect record. Florida State took the lead for the first time in the game with the touchdown pass.

“I feel like we were disrespected all day,” Travis said afterward. “I mean, you put one-on-one against Johnny Wilson, and Keon Coleman, I feel like you have no respect for either the receivers or the quarterback. I missed a lot of throws early on against one-on-ones.

I wish I could go back and complete them. But man, we stepped up when we needed to. Keon made a big-time play, the offensive line gave me time and that’s just a fade one-on-one. I like my guy every single time.”

Together, Wilson and Coleman had 10 catches for 180 yards. Coleman scored twice while getting the ball.

Travis, who had a left shoulder injury against Boston College last week, said that he worsened the ailment while playing but remained in the game.

When his team needed it most, Travis made the crucial play late in the game. The Florida State offense, meanwhile, struggled for much of the second half. Travis missed a lot of throws, including two on the Seminoles’ final drive of regulation as they attempted to move into field goal range, and the run game never really got going.

In the second half, Clemson increased the pressure on Travis; under pressure, he completed 5-of-15 passes for 94 yards and two sacks. However, Clemson failed to blitz or get any pressure to Travis on the game’s last touchdown.

Travis was referred to as “a great player,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said, adding that no offense was meant.

Florida State has escaped two scares in a row and seems to be the favorite to advance to the ACC championship game while defending champion Clemson sinks to 0-2 in ACC play for the first time since 2010. With an open date to recover and fix many of their flaws, September, which had two significant tests (the opener against LSU and this game versus Clemson), comes to a close at 4-0.
