
Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was taken into custody and charged with assault and strangulation following reports that he attacked a woman at a hotel in New York City.
According to authorities, Porter, 23, is suspected of repeatedly punching the victim and putting his hands around her neck. The 26-year-old woman was given medical attention for a cut on the right side of her face.
The incident took place on Monday at about 6:45 a.m. ET (10:45 a.m. GMT) at the Millennium Hilton in Manhattan close to the United Nations according to officials.
“Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 26-year-old female sustained a laceration to the right side of her face and was complaining about pain to her neck,” a police spokesperson said, according to ESPN.
“A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a known individual struck her multiple times upon her body and placed his hands around the neck.”
Porter was arrested while the victim was taken to a hospital.
