The Pennsylvania State Police reported on Wednesday morning that convicted killer Danelo Cavalcante had been apprehended after evading a manhunt for over two weeks.
After midnight on Wednesday, a burglar alarm at a house tripped, giving authorities a crucial lead as to Cavalcante’s whereabouts, according to Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens.
Then, employing “the element of surprise,” a tactical squad that was closing in on Cavalcante was able to be led by a DEA aircraft equipped with thermal imaging technology, according to Bivens. A police dog was let loose as Cavalcante attempted to escape the scene, according to Bivens, and it was able to “subdue” him while giving him “a minor bite wound” to his scalp.
Cavalcante, who had lately been suspected of stealing a rifle, was captured “without shots fired,” and no police personnel were hurt during the operation, according to Governor Josh Shapiro.
Since Cavalcante broke out of the Chester County jail on August 31 and stole a car, a gun, and other stuff while evading capture, encounters with the dangerous and armed guy have frequently sparked alarms. He appeared on numerous people’s doorbell cams.
Police reported that as of Tuesday night, they thought the escaped prisoner was in South Coventry Township, which is northwest of Philadelphia, where he had been seen “shirtless and wearing blue pants, carrying a stolen.22 rifle with a flashlight.”
