Chelsea and Liverpool shared points in a thrilling match that was arguably the biggest of the weekend.
Liverpool got their first magnificent chance in the 12th minute when Gakpo beat Gallagher on the edge of the area but decided not to shoot. Instead, he flicked the ball back to Salah who fired the ball and it got the post.
In the 18th minute, the visitors got the first goal of the match when Mac Alloster sent a beautiful pass down to Sallah. The Egyptian forward curled the ball across the penalty box for Luis Diaz to slide a goal through.
Alexander-Arnold started the move for the second goal as he entered into midfield and played a killer pass inside Colwill, finding Salah who finished the ball and sent it past Sanchez but VAR canceled the goal for offside.
Chelsea equalized in the 37th minute through Alex Disasi after Liverpool failed to completely clear two crosses into the penalty box.
In the second half, Chelsea dominated and had the better chances but could not convert any goal. Liverpool’s Nunez had a good number of Chances too. But he failed to get a goal.
After the match, Alexander-Arnold had this to say about his team.
“It was a difficult game. They’ve made a number of changes and so have we, and we’re playing a fairly new system as well. We knew they had a point to prove after a really poor season. Stamford Bridge, you’d probably take a point if you were offered it at the start of the season.”
“We preferred for them to play 4-3-3 but they set up with a back three. They pressed high and made it hard for us to play. The first 20-25 minutes were really good for us; we just couldn’t keep it up for some reason and they took control of the game.”
“At a certain point, when you’re away from home, you switch – you stop chasing the win and you take the point.”
“I enjoy getting on the ball and helping the team win games. With my passing range I can control the game more from a central area. We try to press high – I was pressing their left centre-back today – but if they do go out down that side, it’s a long way back!”
