Rapper Takeoff of the Migos was shot and died overnight outside a Houston bowling alley, according to his lawyer and the police. He was 28.
The record company for Migos, Quality Control, released a statement in which it expressed its “broken hearts and heartfelt anguish” over the death.
According to authorities, Takeoff and Quavo, a 31-year-old member of the hip-hop trio Migos, were at a private party at 810 Billiards & Bowling in downtown Houston.
Officials also confirmed a man with a gunshot wound to the head or neck was seen and pronounced dead.
At a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, police announced that Takeoff had died in the incident that occurred just after 2:30 in the morning and entailed the firing of two pistols.
Takeoff was “highly liked and non-violent,” according to Police Chief Troy Finner, and there was no reason to think he was involved in any crime when he was shot.
According to Finner, he did not want the incident to have a negative impact on hip-hop.
Two victims, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Michael Arrington of the Homicide Division.
