Social media users have criticized Billie Eilish and her new boyfriend Jesse Rutherford for wearing identical Halloween costumes, which some followers have dubbed “very scary.”
The couple, who have been friends since 2017, but only started dating last month, appeared to make fun of the criticism of their 11-year age difference by dressing as a baby and an elderly man.
The 20-year-old Billie was dressed in a pink suit with colorful teddy bear decorations, a matching bonnet, pink bunny slippers, and a diaper. She also donned a blonde wig and doll-like makeup.
Jesse, the frontman for The Neighbourhood, was photographed by Pop Crave with a bald hat and wrinkled prosthetics.
Although Billie hasn’t put any pictures of her Halloween costume online, she was glimpsed in the background of an Instagram post that featured her brother Finneas and musician Ashe.
Sick and twisted
Fans quickly criticized the similar costumes online, calling them “strange,” “gross,” and “wrong”
“Billie Eilish and Jessie Rutherford’s matching Halloween costumes is incredibly sick and twisted – especially with their age difference and power imbalance,” one fan wrote. “It’s not funny or chic, it’s not poking fun, it’s disturbing, and the adults in her life are letting her down once again.”
“That Billie Eilish costume is extremely disturbing and I absolutely hate it every time it crosses my timeline,” another added, followed by a third who said, “Billie is grown enough to know how weird and creepy this is”.
“Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford think they are edgy with their Halloween costumes, but it’s so embarrassing,” someone else tweeted. “I know she’s gonna regret it in a few years.”
“Must have been very funny in person because it seems like they really don’t want their costume pics online… Almost like they know it’s very weird,” a different user remarked.
Others, though, contended that the costumes were fine and that everyone was fabricating a problem.
“Everyone bullying and making fun of Billie for her Halloween costume this year literally f**k off I thought Halloween was something where people can have fun dressing up as whatever they want,” a fan said. “Literally grow up it’s not that deep.”
