Two employees killed after shooting in Texas hospital

Brutal shooting at hospital

A shooting at the Methodist Dallas Medical Hospital on Saturday morning saw two employees killed as the suspect fled the scene, although they now have him in custody.

In a news release, the hospital said that at approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday, Methodist Health System police, Dallas police, and Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a shooting in the 1400 block of North Beckley Avenue.

Both the suspect and the police traded shots, as the police entered the hospital and saw two dead bodies near the labor and delivery room.

While searching for the suspect after the shooting, a Methodist Health System police officer shot and injured the suspect, 30-year-old Nestor Hernandez.

Dallas Police say Hernandez is currently on parole for aggravated robbery and had an active ankle monitor at the time of the shooting, as they charged him with capital murder.

In a written statement, the hospital wrote:

“The Methodist Health System Family is heartbroken at the loss of two of our beloved team members. Our entire organization is grieving this unimaginable tragedy.”

“Our prayers are with our lost co-workers and their families, as well as our entire Methodist family. We appreciate the community’s support during this difficult time.”

Eddie Garcia, Chief of the Dallas Police Department also tweeted:

“We @DallasPD are grateful for the support and care provided to our officers by @mhshospitals.Our thoughts are with staff and victims of today’s events.”

“We will do EVERYTHING to assist in this investigation. This is a tragedy and an abhorrent failure of our criminal justice system.”

In a Tweet, Dallas mayor Eric Johnson said, “Our city loves our healthcare heroes, and our residents will be there for them as we grieve and seek swift justice.”
