Tropical Storm Nalgae has caused 72 deaths due to flooding and landslides, as the authorities struggled to evacuate residents from their flooded homes.
According to local reports, Maguindanao province was the most affected with 67 people dead, while two were killed in Sultan Kudarat, another two in South Cotabato, and the rest of the casualties spread across the Visayas region in central Philippines.
The Philippines has also recorded 33 injured and 14 missing persons so far, as many as they can account for.
The tropical storm, which has maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers (59 miles) per hour and gusts of up to 160 kph (99.4 mph), made landfall in the eastern Catanduanes province early on Saturday.
Recently many parts of the world have recorded severe natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and tornados.
The United States has also dealt with quite a several destructive hurricanes, storms, and quite mild earthquakes that have destroyed so many homes, especially in Florida and all of the Bay Area.
On Friday, search and rescue teams pulled bodies from the water and thick mud after Nalgae triggered flooding and landslides.
“We are now gathering all rescue teams and will conduct a briefing before deployment,” Nasrullah Imam, a disaster agency official at Maguindanao province, said. “It’s no longer raining so this will help our search and operation.”
Costa Rica and Mexico have also recorded destructive natural disasters this year, especially in various parts of Mexico.
