Last Champions League match, Liverpool snatched a late 2-1 win at Ajax to get their first points on the board in the competition, after a heavy defeat to Napoli in their Opening leg.
Liverpool made a bright start to the game, with Salah working with Nunez, trying to put the ball on the back of the net.
In the 7th minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold put the Premier League giants in front when he fired a freekick over the Rangers wall and straight into the near top corner, where McGregor can’t get close.
McGregor put up another save in the 17th minute when Nunez knocked the ball out to Salah and he had acres of space to run into down the right. Barisic backed off as he cut inside, so he curled a low shot towards the far corner, and McGregor got a touch to turn it wide.
Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Alexander-Arnold has scored six direct free-kick goals in all competitions, more than any other Liverpool player in this period. At halftime, Liverpool was leading by a goal.
McGregor had four great saves, denying Salah and Nunez of any chance to widen the gap in the first half of the game.
The hosts were given a penalty in the 52nd minute when Diaz cut inside from the left again and Lundstram had the first swipe at him before King clumsily crashed into him in a tangle of legs.
Salah took a long run-up to the spot, shifting right and left as he tried to catch out McGregor. He got a lot of power behind the strike and sent it straight down the middle as the keeper dived to his left, putting the host 2-0 up.
Rangers managed just one shot on target, in the 85th minute when Alisson denied Colak.
Liverpool stay second in the group, while Rangers are bottom, still in search of their first goal and points. These two will face each other again next Wednesday, but they’re in league action first, with Liverpool travelling to Arsenal and Rangers facing St Mirren at the weekend.
