Newcastle destroys Fulham in their England Derby by four goals after Chalobah was shown a red card. Newcastle is also in the top half of the table, in 10th, but after starting their campaign with a win against Nottingham Forest, they have not won their last six games.
Fulham has won 12 of their 28 Premier League games against Newcastle. The pressure was on as early as the 5th minute when Trippier played a halfway line freekick and Burn brought it down before drilling a powerful shot on goal. Leno bundled it away and Wilson reacted the quickest to poke it towards goal, but it bounced back off the post.
Chalobah’s card was overturned in the 7th minute after he caught Longstaff with his studs on the ankle. The referee initially gave a yellow card but was asked by the VAR to check the field monitor. After checking it, Chalobah was shown a straight red.
Two minutes later, Newcastle is in front, after another great delivery from Trippier on the right side as he curled the into the far post, while Fulham was struggling to regroup. It was too high for Almiron, but Willock nodded it back across goal. He was trying to score himself, but it needed the touch from Wilson at the far post to help it over the line.
The away team doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Guimaraes clipped the ball over the top to pick out Almiron’s run. He watched it drop over his shoulder and swung a leg at it, volleying his shot over Leno and into the far bottom corner.
It’s a Newcastle show, as they make it three just before halftime. Botman had a free header at the back and Leno got his fingertips to it to tip it onto the post. Longstaff reacted the fastest and fired it past Leno before he can respond.
The away team is not wasting any chances as they quadruple their lead just a little over 10 minutes into the second half when Almiron scored from a dangerous cross by Willock onto the 18-yard box.
Fulham got their late consolation at home when Kebano clipped a cross into the far post to pick out De Cordova-Reid, who nodded it past Pope from close range.
