Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both got three goals each in the highest goal-scoring Manchester Derby. Manchester City are looking to win three consecutive Premier League games against Manchester United for the first time since a run of four between April 2013 and November 2014.
Manchester City took off from the beginning of the match, holding possession, moving forward, and trying to create chances.
In the 8th minute, The home side took the lead as Foden steered his strike past De Gea high into the net. City probed on the edge of the United box before Cancelo released Silva down the left flank. He supplied a perfect low ball for Foden to attack and he provided a sublime finish on his left foot to break the deadlock.
That was his first ever goal against Man Utd, in what is his eighth appearance against them in all competitions.
Gundogan’s strike hit the woodwork in the 18th minute. Baal made it two when he notched his 12th of the season with a powerful header from De Bruyne’s corner. De Bruyne angled a cross into the box from the left corner that Haaland rose to attack. He planted his header towards the bottom-left corner where Malacia cannot prevent it from crossing the line.
Three minutes later, the Norway International makes it 3 for the team and 13 for himself, after sending the ball into the back of the net.
Just before halftime, Foden extend Manchester United’s woes, combining with De Bruyne and Haaland to chip the ball into the back of the net. 4-0 to City!
In the 56th minute, Antony pulled one back for the visitors, when Grealish missed an interception, and it allowed Antony to collect on the right flank and cut inside. He curled a left-footed strike towards goal and beat Ederson to find the bottom-right corner.
Haaland is the first player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick in three consecutive Premier League home games, as he got another goal in the 64th minute.
City’s destruction of United continued as Foden smashed a left-footed strike past De Gea to get his hattrick. Haaland released his team-mate with an incisive pass on the edge of the box before Foden turned and finished with super effort.
Martial pulled another one back for the Red Devils when he stooped low to head home from close range to get a second consolation effort for the visitors.
Martial got his second in the 91st minute from the penalty spot with a neat finish, striking high into the top-right corner to beat Ederson.
