Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, has successfully acquired the social networking company for $44 billion (£38.1 billion).
Mr Musk tweeted “the bird is freed” and later said “let the good times roll”.
Ned Segal, the head of finance of Twitter, and Bret Taylor, the company’s chairman, have both left as a result of the purchase.
Parag Agrawal, the company’s CEO, is also said to have resigned and was led from Twitter’s San Francisco offices.
On social media, Mr. Segal announced his departure. He reminisced on the stress brought on by the uncertainty of the previous six months while tweeting that his tenure at the company had been the “most satisfying of my career.”
The agreement puts a stop to Mr. Musk’s and Twitter’s months-long legal dispute.
“You learn so much when times are challenging and unpredictable, when we are tired or feel our integrity questioned,” Mr Segal said on Friday, alluding to Mr Musk’s public criticism of the company’s leadership.
“I have great hope for Twitter,” he adzed.
Through a file with the US government on Friday, the agreement was made official.
Over the summer, Mr. Musk attempted to back out of his offer, alleging false user statistics. However, Twitter officials launched legal action to force him to stick by his generous bid for the social media network.
Twitter’s own users are divided over the protracted legal battle; some are concerned that Mr. Musk will relax restrictions on hate speech and disinformation, while others believe that the previous administration severely restricted free speech with its stringent controls.
Despite reassuring advertisers in a public message that he did not want it to become into a “free-for-all hellscape,” Mr. Musk has stated that he views the platform as a medium for “free speech.”
Former US President Donald Trump, who was banned from Twitter last year after the Capitol incident in January 2021, reiterated his “love” for his own Twitter-like service, Truth Social, while asserting that the takeover meant that Twitter was now in “sane hands.”
The new ownership was also hailed by Dmitry Medvedev, the former president of Russia and current vice-chair of the Security Council.
“Good luck @elonmusk in overcoming political bias and ideological dictatorship on Twitter,” tweeted Mr Medvedev.
