Dortmund came into this one second in Champions League Group G having taken six points from their opening three games.
The first big chance of the match came in the 12th minute, when Lamela switched the ball out right for Navas, who centred the ball smartly to find Rakitic in the box. The Croatian shot it the first time but his effort isn’t on target – it flew over the bar.
Six minutes later, Nianzou scored his first goal for Sevilla when Rakitic whipped in a free-kick from deep on the left flank to find the Frenchman in the box – his header flew into the back of the net.
In the 35th minute, Bellingham equalized to make it 1-1. The Englishman started the move, playing the ball out to Meunier – the Belgian then centered it for Bellingham, who managed to bundle the ball over the line and into the back of the net.
Dortmund tried to push for a winner in the second half, as it would give them a guaranteed spot I’m the knockout stages, but they could not get it.
At the end of 90 minutes, All was squared at the Signal Iduna Park, and, in truth, it’s not the result either side would have wanted.
Dortmund wanted to secure their place in the Round of 16 and Sevilla wanted to breathe life into what’s been a diabolical European campaign. Neither thing happened but both sides will probably accept that a draw is a fair result.
Dortmund welcome Manchester City to Signal Iduna Park in the next Champions League matchday while Sevilla host Copenhagen at the Sanchez-Pizjuan.
If Dortmund can defeat their next opposition, it would guarantee them a spot in the knockout. A win for Sevilla would also be a move in the right direction.
