Did China Open Their Police Station In Nigeria? True Or False

buhari-xi-jinping

There have been numerous claims in Nigeria’s media suggesting that China has opened and is running police stations there and in other nations.

The majority of the reports—if not all of them—cited an investigative piece by the rights organization Safeguard Defenders, titled “110 Overseas Chinese Transnational Policing Gone Wild.”

According to the reports, China has made the decision to establish police stations in Nigeria and other nations in order to combat criminal activity among its expatriate citizens.

According to the original Safeguard Defenders report, Benin City, Edo state is home to China’s police station or “service station” in Nigeria (Fuzhou public security).

Is China running police station in Nigeria?
According to a Vanguard article, the Chinese embassy in Nigeria has denied setting up and running police stations there.

The reports are untrue, according to Zhang Hang, the press representative for China in Nigeria, who was quoted saying this on Wednesday, October 19.

“There is no such station in Nigeria or everywhere,” Hang said.

Why China cannot establish and run a police station in Nigeria
Hang continued by saying that no government could open police stations outside of its own borders in another sovereign state under any circumstances due to diplomatic relations.

“This is because any sovereign country cannot allow other countries to set up their own (police) stations on their land. This is common sense, right?”
