According to state police, a shooting that occurred in Bristol overnight resulted in two officers being killed and one suffering significant injuries.
Following allegations of an officer-involved gunshot, state police verified that they had arrived at the Bristol neighborhood of Redstone Hill Road and Birch Street shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
The police, from the Bristol Police Department, had been called to a domestic violence emergency at a private property in the city, according to a statement from Governor Ned Lamont.
On Thursday, a news conference was scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Watch it live down below:
They requested that everyone who was impacted, including the officer’s family, think of them and pray for them.
“Three officers were shot in Bristol [officer-involved shooting],” Connecticut State Police wrote on social media. “We are still working diligently to gather accurate information from our investigators and all that are involved. We will provide a press conference as soon as we can. Again, please be patient as the scene is still very active and fluid.”
Near ESPN, in a residential neighborhood, was the scene.
Channel 3 observed a significant police presence at Bristol Health where the policemen were taken. Later on Thursday morning, a procession brought the deceased officers to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The regularity of the shooting, according to a witness who spoke with Channel 3, was unsettling.
“We just, like, hearing the gunshots like ‘pop pop pop pop pop pop’ up and stop, and then stop for maybe 30 seconds and then another round ‘pop pop pop pop pop’ and then it just stopped. And then [we] started hearing sirens and everything else,” said Ted Krawiec, an eyewitness.
