Schmeichel saves help Denmark

Kasper Schmeichel was on fire for Denmark as they got a stunning victory over football favorites, France in the last group stage fixture of the UEFA Nations League.

Christian Eriksen did a good job as he was everywhere, trying to create chances for the home team. France started on a high note, as Kylian Mbappe forced Schmeichel into action following a corner.

Denmark began to press forward deep into the first half, as they needed a win and they also needed Austra to win to guarantee them a place in the UEFA Nations League Final.

Unfortunately, Croatia won their opponent and even Denmark’s win over France could not get them into the Finals.

Kasper Dolberg scored the breakthrough of the match, sliding in the penalty box to meet Damsgaard’s cross, sending it into the back of the net, and putting Denmark in front with a lot to fight for.

Denmark kept trying to add more goals, but France’s goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola made some beautiful saves to deny Thomas Delaney and Joakim Maehle.

In the 39th minute, the Danish side increased the goal gap when Skov Olsen fired a beautiful volley from the edge of the penalty box through a congested defense and into the back of the net.

Schmeichel made three saves against Mbappe, preventing the young and in-form player from giving his side any chance to get back in the game.

Although Denmark won the match against France, Croatia finished at the top of the group, just a point ahead of the Danish side and they secured their place in the UEFA Nations League finals.
