On the eve of the 2022 Presidents Cup, Shane Ryan of Golf Digest announced Justin Thomas to be the new “Captain America.” For starters, Patrick Reed, the artist formerly known as that, has brought his talents to LIV Golf. Another is that Justin Thomas doesn’t drop out of these team competitions.
The fact that Thomas and his friend Jordan Spieth teamed for a perfect 4-0 record over the first three days this week is proof positive of it. And on Sunday, when JT was playing alone, he quickly took a two-up lead over Si Woo Kim. At Quail Hollow, he did, however, make a mistake, and a nasty one at that.
Thomas made a mistake that all golfers have made at some point. He attempted to remove the sand from his shoes by tapping them with his club after hitting a bunker shot on hole number five, but he failed. Here is his distressed response in slow motion:
Pain is real. It aches. That hurts, I mean, truly, really hurts. especially if you strike your inside foot against the ankle bone. maybe the shin. Please don’t hit your shin. Ouch.
In any case, Thomas persevered and carried on with the game. However, Mr. Red, White, and Blue can eventually have a slight case of the blues.
