MANCHESTER UNITED declined the chance to sign Moises Caicedo, a star player for Brighton.
The 20-year-old Caicedo has distinguished himself at the Amex Stadium this year and assisted the Seagulls’ 2-1 victory over United in their Premier League debut at Old Trafford last month.
The Red Devils met with the midfielder’s former club, Independiente del Valle, in February 2021, according to The Athletic, and walked away from a deal that would have only cost them £4.5 million.
Due to issues with paying various agents, the Manchester giants focused their attention elsewhere.
But Brighton intervened and devised a plan to arrange those payments to acquire the Ecuadorian international.
The 20-year-old was then given a loan to the Belgian team Beerschot to help him get used to playing in Europe.
Caicedo was reinstated by Graham Potter at the end of the previous campaign to take Yves Bissouma’s place, who joined Tottenham.
The Ecuadorian, who has started all six of Brighton’s Premier League games this season, has done a good job so far of filling in for Bissouma.
During today’s thrilling Premier League match against Leicester, he also scored his first goal.
After Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic left as free agents, United needed to strengthen its midfield.
