The court has ordered 17-year-old human trafficking victim, Pieper Lewis to pay $150k in restitution to the family of the man who raped her. Lewis stabbed her alleged rapist, 37-year-old Zachary Brooks, which led to his death when she was fifteen.
In the beginning, the state prosecution that took up Lewis’s case charged her with first-degree murder, after she brutally stabbed her attacker, but after deliberating on the circumstances and taking into consideration the fact that she is a juvenile, her sentence was shelved for five-year probation.
The court has also ordered her to pay 150k in restitution, according to Iowa state criminal law. Although the family did not agree due to the fatality in the case. The Judge has given his final order, stating that there is no other option they have for a 17-year-old and a victim of sexual molestation.
