Robbie Grossman, a seasoned corner outfielder, was traded by the Detroit Tigers to the Atlanta Braves, the defending World Series champions, on Monday night in exchange for minor league pitcher Kris Anglin.
The 32-year-old Grossman has struggled for the Tigers’ out-of-contention side, posting a.205 batting average, 13 doubles, two home runs, and 23 RBIs in 83 games. He will receive $5 million this year and has the option to leave the team at the end of the campaign. The switch-hitter has played 43 games in left field and 31 in right.
With 23 home runs and 156 games played in his Tigers debut the previous year, Grossman achieved career highs. He also has a career on-base percentage of.348 and was second in the AL with 98 walks.
Grossman played for Houston, Minnesota, and Oakland in the past. He will join a loaded Braves squad that is 3 1/2 games out of first place in the NL East and has the best record in the NL wild-card chase.
Atlanta selected the left-handed Anglin in the 16th round of the 2021 draught. He was with Augusta Class A.
The Braves optioned the first baseman Mike Ford to Triple-A Gwinnett to create a place on the roster for Grossman.
Early in the day, the Braves sent minor league outfielder Trey Harris, who hit.238 for Double-A Mississippi this year, to the Washington Nationals in exchange for infielder Ehire Adrianza, who was acquired by the Braves earlier.
When veteran Robinson CanĂ³ was designated for assignment after hitting, the Braves freed up a slot for Adrianza.
