Police have retrieved video footage of the shooting outside Drake’s home from surveillance cameras, and the security guard is currently hospitalized.
According to The Guardian, one of Drake’s security personnel sustained “serious injuries” in a shooting outside the rapper’s Toronto mansion.
The shooting occurred early on Tuesday morning, with the male security guard promptly taken to the hospital due to severe yet “non-life-threatening” injuries, as reported by CNN.
Toronto Police Inspector Paul Krawczyk disclosed that authorities are actively investigating the matter. Video evidence of the shooting has been recovered from surveillance cameras, and the injured security guard continues to receive medical attention.
Krawczyk stated that it is premature to discuss motives. However, he acknowledged the presence of multiple suspects who fled the scene in a vehicle.
Addressing inquiries about a possible connection to Drake’s ongoing feud with rapper Kendrick Lamar, Krawczyk refrained from speculating on any motives at this early stage of the investigation.
Reporters examining the feud may find Kendrick Lamar’s latest song, “Not Like Us,” particularly noteworthy. The track, part of a series of diss records, includes accusations of wrongdoing, with the album art featuring a satellite image of Drake’s mansion.
Although previous tracks hinted at tensions, Lamar explicitly targeted Drake in “Not Like Us,” escalating their feud.
Drake’s conflict with Kendrick Lamar coincides with the release of his recent album, “For All The Dogs,” which was followed by his announcement of a hiatus from music.
Shortly after the album’s release, Drake shared plans to take a “year or so” break from music to address health concerns, as revealed during a recent episode of his SiriusXM podcast, “Table For One.”
Citing “the craziest problems” with his stomach, he explained, “I probably won’t make music for a little bit. I need to focus on my health, first and foremost, and I’ll talk about that soon enough.
“Nothing crazy, but just like, you know, I want people to be healthy in life, and I’ve been having the craziest problems for years with my stomach. So, I need to focus on my health, and I need to get [that] right.”
He added, “I have a lot of other things that I would love to focus on. So, I’ma lock the door in the studio for a little bit. I don’t even know what a little bit is. Maybe a year or so, maybe a little longer.”
