Ryan Fellows, the star of the racing program “Street Outlaws: Fastest in America” on the Discovery Channel, was killed in a car accident on Sunday, the program announced on social media.
The statement on Twitter said, “The Street Outlaws family is grieved by the accident that tragically resulted in the loss of Ryan Fellows. “We offer Ryan’s loved ones our sincere condolences as they cope with this unexpected and tragic loss.”
The fatal collision was first reported by TMZ, which said that Fellows was filming for the show when the collision occurred outside of Las Vegas.
According to TMZ, Fellows lost control of his Nissan 240Z as he approached the finish line. The car blew up and started burning.
Fellows’ GoFundMe page was started on Sunday afternoon. It describes him as a “avid automobile enthusiast and was a ‘fighter’ in many respects.” Fellows was married and had two kids, who were 10 and 18 years old.
It wouldn’t be the first time this year that one of the show’s stars crashed, and it would be fatal. While filming a race for the show in Texas in January, JJ Da Boss, another cast member, collided with his wife. Suddenly catching fire in the middle of the race, one of the cars veered and collided with the opposing car.
Inquiries concerning the incident were not immediately answered by Discovery officials.
