Myles Brennan, who began playing quarterback for LSU early in the 2020 season but missed the most of the previous two seasons due to injury, stated on Monday that he will no longer be participating in college football.
In a statement shared on social media, Brennan announced that he is “moving away from football.”
For the starting position, Myles Brennan was vying with former Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels and sophomore Garrett Nussmeier. When former LSU coach Ed Orgeron was sacked last winter, Brennan briefly used the transfer portal.
Kelly reached out to Brennan after he was hired from Notre Dame and convinced him to come back.
Daniels, a gifted dual-threat quarterback, started three seasons for the Sun Devils and threw for 6,025 yards and 32 touchdowns. During LSU’s spring game, Myles Brennan received the same amount of playing time as Daniels and Nussmeier, and all three quarterbacks completed touchdown passes.
Brennan, who was raised in Mississippi and has relatives in New Orleans, waited until he was a fourth-year junior to be given the opportunity to start for the Tigers in 2020, replacing Joe Burrow, who had won the Heisman Trophy and guided the team to a national title the season before.
Brennan had 11 touchdown passes and 3 interceptions in his three games. However, he tore a muscle, ending his season early. He had a fishing mishap the next year in which he shattered his left arm.
Last year’s LSU starter Max Johnson switched to Texas A&M in December. On September 4 in New Orleans, LSU will play Florida State in the season opener.
