[Video] Marvel Takes Comic-Con Down An Emotional Rabbit Hole In Black Panther Wakanda Forever

In the first trailer for “Black Panther Wakanda Forever,” Marvel transports viewers back to Wakanda.

The trailer moves between shots of Wakanda’s aquatic settings, futuristic technology, and what appears to be a funeral with crowds of Wakandans clad in white while using the lyrical motif of “We going to be fine” from Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” and the voice of Afrobeat superstar, Tems.

Who will assume the mantle of the Black Panther in Black Panther Wakanda Forever? is a question that hangs over the trailer. At the end of the trailer, a figure wearing the hero’s suit is visible, albeit it isn’t made clear who is wearing it.

A group of traditional African singers performed a fanfare before the film was unveiled at the conclusion of Marvel Studios’ enormous panel on Saturday night at San Diego Comic-Con.

Black Panther Wakanda Forever is said to be a legacy project in memory of Chadwick. “We honoured him by committing ourselves to the story that he started, the legacy that he started with this franchise,” Letitia Wright told Variety.

“And we just committed every day to working hard, no matter what circumstances we faced — and we faced a lot of circumstances, a lot of difficult situations — but we came together as a team, and we poured everything into this movie, so I’m excited for you to see it.”

The first Black Panther writer-director Ryan Coogler then spoke on stage about the follow-up while lamenting the passing of Chadwick Boseman, the series’ original lead. The principal actor T’Challa, Boseman, passed away in August 2020 after a four-year, private struggle with colon cancer.

The “Black Panther” cast members Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, and Lupita Nyong’o were then introduced by director Ryan Coogler on the Comic-Con stage.

Michaela Coel, Dominique Thorne, Alex Nivilani, Mabel Cadena, and Tenoch Huerta, all newbies to the series, also joined the panel. In the movie, Huerta will play Namor, the Submariner, a beloved character from Marvel Comics.

“Black Panther Wakanda Forever” will be released in U.S. theatres on Nov. 11.
