Samara Weaving was born on February 23, 1992, in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. Although she and her family moved around for the next several years, living in Singapore, Fiji, Indonesia, and Australia. 

She went to grade school in Jakarta, Indonesia, before moving to Pittwater House School in Australia in 2004 and joining the Canberra Girls’ Grammar School. 

The actress spent a lot of time featuring in short films, dance and stage productions, and even with the Singapore Dance Company and Canberra Youth Theatre.

She landed the role of Kirsten Mulroney in the BBC series Out of the Blue in 2008. While it only lasted a season, there were 129 episodes in total. Samara appeared in 48 of them. 

Following that success, she landed her next big role as Indi Walker in the Australian serial opera Home and Away (1988), in which she would appear in over 300 episodes. 

Samara received her first feature part in Mystery Road (2013), a film starring her celebrity uncle, Hugo Weaving, after leaving Home and Away (1988).

She also starred in the 2015 TV movie Squirrel Boys (2015) and a key role in the 2015 film Monster Trucks (2016) with renowned performers like Rob Lowe and Danny Glover.

She also played John Hawkes’ girlfriend in the film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and she was in the music video for Charlie Puth’s song “Attention,” which has over one billion views on YouTube.

She starred in the Showtime series SMILF as Nelson Rose from 2017 to 2019. 

Samara Weaving confirmed her departure from the show at the end of the second season in December 2018. 

After complaining about having to do a naked sex scene, Weaving requested to be released from her contract. 

According to Variety’s Daniel Holloway, Weaving was disturbed by show creator and co-star Frankie Shaw’s behavior during a similar sex scene in the first season.

In 2020, Samara Weaving starred in the drama thriller Last Moment of Clarity, reprised her role in The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and played Thea Preston in Bill & Ted Face the Music, as the daughter of Alex Winter’s character.

In the G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes (2021), she was cast as Scarlett. 

She also stars in the Hulu drama series Nine Perfect Strangers, which is based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name. 

Along with Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, and Asher Keddie, Weaving plays Jessica, one of the strangers who joins a health and wellness retreat.

In Adam Leon’s biopic Liz, Weaving will play American heiress Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte.

She will also feature as former Playboy Bunny Holly Madison  in a limited television series based on Madison’s novel Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny.

She’s also in Damien Chazelle’s historical drama Babylon, as well as The Valet, an adaptation of the 2006 French film of the same name. 

In July 2021, Weaving joined the cast of the biographical picture Chevalier as Marie-Josephine, the female lead. 

Samara Weaving was cast as an assassin in Boy Kills World with Bill Skarsgrd and Yayan Ruhian in October 2021. Due to scheduling issues, she left the project in early 2022 Jessica Rothe took her place.
