The US Pentagon said it has no information on the fate of the Russian Navy warship ‘Admiral Makarov,’ which was reportedly hit by Ukrainian missiles late on Thursday, May 5. It was first reported as sunk but later alleged to be on fire.
“We’ve seen the news [about Admiral Makarov]…,” US Department of Defense press secretary John Kirby said during a press briefing on Friday, May 6.
We’ve been looking at this all day and have found no evidence to back up these reports.”
Aleksey Arestovich, the President of Ukraine, also claimed that they had no information about the attack.
According to Russian media sources, Russian President Dmitry Peskov’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, was unable to confirm or refute the information.
Prior to the comments from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, Turkish media supposedly aired images of the Admiral Makarov ship burning after being hit by a Ukrainian Neptune missile.
Although neither side has verified that the Admiral Makarov, a Russian missile frigate, was sunk, video footage and photographs circulating on social media apparently show the cruiser on fire.
