Racing Horse Medina Spirit has reportedly died of a heart attack after a workout at Santa Anita Park.
The sudden death of the sports horse was revealed by his trainer – Bob Baffert.
“My entire barn is devastated by this news, Medina Spirit was a great champion, a member of our family who was loved by all, and we are deeply mourning his loss.
“I will always cherish the proud and personal memories of Medina Spirit and his tremendous spirit.”
It was also gathered that samples from the deceased horse have been sent to the California Horse Racing Board, where they will be tested to ascertain the cause of death of Medina Spirit.
On May 1, Medina Spirit and jockey John Velazquez won the Kentucky Derby, but their victory has been in dispute and was yet to be resolved after Medina Spirit tested positive for 21 picograms of betamethasone – a performance steroid which should not be seen in the blood of racehorses on a racing day, but can be used any other time.
